Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Juist Soapworks different?
Juist soaps are handcrafted in small batches with carefully chosen plant-based ingredients. We believe soap should be simple: nourishing oils, natural botanicals, clays, and essential oils. Nothing unnecessary. Every bar is made without palm oil, synthetic fragrance, or artificial colorants.
What does “Juist” mean?
Juist is a Dutch word meaning “just,” “exactly,” or “as it should be.” It reflects our approach to soapmaking: simple ingredients, thoughtful choices, and a return to what’s essential.
Do you use fragrance oils?
No. Juist soaps are scented only with essential oils or unscented. We never use synthetic fragrances or artificial scent blends. Because essential oils are naturally derived, the scent of each bar is intentionally subtle and may vary slightly from batch to batch.
Do you use palm oil?
Never. Juist soaps are completely palm oil-free. We choose alternative plant-based oils and butters to create bars that are gentle on your skin.
Do you use synthetic colors or micas?
No. Our colors all come from nature. We use botanicals, clays, and other naturally derived ingredients to create each bar’s unique appearance. Because of this, slight variations in color and texture are part of what makes every batch special.
Are Juist soaps vegan?
Yes. Every Juist soap bar is vegan and made without animal-derived ingredients.
Are your soaps handmade?
Yes. Each bar is handcrafted in small batches, cut, and cured with care. The curing process takes approximately 4-6 weeks, allowing the soap to become harder, longer-lasting, and gentler on your skin.
Why does my bar look slightly different from another one?
Because Juist soaps are handmade with natural ingredients, no two bars are exactly alike. Variations in color, texture, scent, and pattern are natural results of using botanicals, clays, and essential oils.
Are handmade soaps better for your skin?
Many people prefer handmade soaps because they retain naturally occurring glycerin, a moisturizing component created during the soapmaking process. Juist Soapworks bars are made with thoughtfully selected oils and butters designed to cleanse without feeling stripping.
How should I care for my soap?
To help your bar last longer, keep it dry between uses. Store it on a draining soap dish or somewhere water can flow away from the bar. Pro tip
How long will a bar of Juist soap last?
The best way to extend the life of your bar is to keep it dry between uses. Store it on a draining soap dish or somewhere water can flow away from the soap.
For an even longer-lasting bar, you can cut it into smaller pieces and use one piece at a time. This keeps the rest of the bar dry and fresh until you’re ready for it.
Can I use Juist soap on my face?
Our soaps are made with gentle ingredients, and many customers enjoy using them on their face. However, everyone’s skin is different, so we recommend patch testing first and choosing the bar that best suits your skin.
Are Juist soaps safe for sensitive skin?
Our formulas are created with simple, recognizable ingredients and avoid synthetic fragrance and unnecessary additives. However, natural ingredients can still affect different people differently, so we recommend checking the ingredient list before use.
Where are Juist soaps made?
