Juist Soapworks began while our family was living in Belgium with our young children. My daughter had sensitive skin, which made me pay closer attention to the products we used every day. I wanted simple, thoughtfully made products with ingredients I could feel good about using in our home.

I'd been fascinated by traditional soapmaking for years. I still remember seeing my first handmade bar of soap as a child and being amazed that something so beautiful could be made by hand. Over the years, I collected books, researched techniques, and told myself I'd try it "someday."

That someday came during the COVID pandemic.

I made my first batch of soap, then another, and soon I was spending evenings experimenting with recipes, learning the science behind the craft, and refining each formula. Since then, I've handcrafted hundreds of bars and improving my process with every batch.

Living in Europe also shaped my perspective. I came to appreciate the value of quality over quantity, traditional craftsmanship, and the simple rituals that make everyday life feel a little more meaningful. Those values continue to guide everything I make.

Today, Juist Soapworks is based in Northern Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C. Every batch is handcrafted using the traditional cold process method and made without palm oil, synthetic fragrances, harsh detergents, or unnecessary fillers. Instead, I use carefully selected ingredients, natural clays, botanicals, and pure essential oils to create soaps that are as beautiful as they are enjoyable to use.

The name Juist comes from my years living in Belgium. In Dutch, it means something close to "right" or "just so"—a fitting reminder that the best products don't have to be complicated. They simply need to be made with care.
